TESTING YOUR REMOTE
To test your remote, point your remote at your digital camera or the camera on your mobile phone and press any button on the remote. If the remote is sending codes to your device you will be able to see the flashes on your cameras display.
CLEANING YOUR REMOTE CONTROL
On many remote controls there are one or more buttons that don’t work, this is usually caused by dirt and or liquids that have spilt on the remote and there is now poor contact between the rubber buttons and the circuit board. The simple solution is to take the remote apart and clean it
From the outside one assumes the remote internally is full of tiny and complicated parts that will be impossible to reassemble once opened. On the contrary, remotes are easy to open, clean and reassemble. First, open the battery compartment and take out the batteries. Then take a screwdriver and remove all of the screws that are holding the remote together. On a sky remote there is only one at the back. With the screws removed, the remote should come apart pretty easily. You can use a flathead screwdriver or knife to gently separate the two halves if it doesn’t just fall apart. If the device won’t come apart even from a gentle prying, double check to make sure there aren’t any screws still in the remote that you have overlooked. After splitting the case, separate the three parts which are the rubber buttons, circuit board and outer case. Clean the rubber buttons and outer case with soap and water. Note that on the underside of the rubber buttons (the part that makes contact with the circuit board) there is conductive paint; take care not to remove this. Gently clean the circuit board with alcohol. Finally reassemble the parts and re-test the all the buttons
Putting Your Remote in Dish Washer
You can buy a sky remote on eBay for £6.00. If you can't be bothered with opening and cleaning it, put it in the Dish Washer (AT YOUR OWN RISK!) and then leave it in the sun for a few hours. This usually works perfectly, if it doesn't work, oh well £6.00 into the green wheelie bin!
