I spent six years installing satellite and terrestrial TV systems in
Valencia Province. I have retired from this vocation and have pleasure
in passing on my knowledge to D.I.Y enthusiasts and those interested in
learning more about installing and maintaining satellite systems.
There are however many D.I.Y individuals who think they know all the
answers and pass on a great deal of misinformation to their friends
and colleagues. I recommend that the majority of people use
professional installers to install and repair their systems.
Unfortunately it is difficult for the public to separate the professionals from the
"cowboys"
The satellite dishes fall into three categories small, medium and large. The size of the dish is determined by the strength of the signal. Where you have a strong signal, the orientation of the dish is not difficult and the results are very consistent. Here in Valencia Province we have the poorest signals from the satellite Astra 2d which is transmitting the signals for the BBC and ITV Channels. Tuning these big dishes (1.8 m to 3.2m) is very tricky and regardless how many years of experience a professional installer has, each dish poses a challenge and there isn't a perfect installation for every possible channel due to the fact the dish is collecting signals from 4 different satellites which all require different parameters and its not possible to adjust the dish and lnb for every frequency (channel). Consequently the installer does his best for a selection of channels that important for the viewer.
Of course there is also Digital Terrestrial Tv. The programs are transmitted in Spanish but the language can be switched to English where the original content is in English. And then TV channels are available via the internet.
