On Demand Services - Catch Up TV

TV broadcasters are now making some of their programmes available via the internet, usually after they have been transmitted. Because you can choose when you watch these programmes, the service is known as “TV on demand”. Some on-demand services allow you to download TV programmes to your PC for you to watch at your leisure. Other services allow you to watch programmes directly on the broadcasters’ websites in a process known as “live streaming”.

To receive these Channels simply go the Broadcasters websites and click on the channel you want and if you live outside the UK you will receive a message "Not Available In Your Area". To overcome this you have to signup to a service that masks your IP address and provides a UKIP address. There are a number of these services available including International Alliance Privacy Services and My Private Network.

There are some free services available including Expatshield but I guess they are not as reliable as good commercial sites

There are several ways of doing this and it depends on the outputs of the computer and inputs on the TV. If your computer is a desktop and some distance from the TV it becomes a little complicated.

The following video shows how its done…

The Slingbox

You connect your Sky Box or cable TV in the UK to the Internet via a Slingbox. With a good Internet connection you can watch your TV back in England from anywhere and use the remote control online. This video says it all…
