La Albufera

La Albufera is a freshwater lagoon located south of the city of Valencia. The lake and surrounding wetlands are connected to the sea with three canals (two natural and a third is man-made).

La Albufera is an important stopover point for migratory birds and a nesting area for resident birds. This scenic region is a must see for lovers of wildlife.

Rice farming is the main activity around the lake and not surprisingly, this is the birthplace of paella (the famous rice dish of Valencia). At the surrounding restaurants you can sample and enjoy gastronomic feasts of a variety of paella dishes which always include an ample supply of seafood.
