In the 80s, a lot of old theatres were converted into multiplexes. Here, however, the opposite occurred. This well known cinema was transformed into a theatre by the Valencian government. Situated in the Town Hall square, it is one of several theatres run by the local government, and it puts on reasonably high quality shows and performances by companies from the Valencian province and other national and international groups.
