A short taxi ride from the city. A blend of restaurant and museum, serving traditional Valencian dishes, it can be found in an old farmhouse set in the Algirós region of ‘La Huerta’, the agricultural green belt that surrounds Valencia City. It was first opened to the public in the early 19th century by Juan Bautista Navarro Dols, to serve wine and food to labourers working in the surrounding fields. Still run by the Navarro family, La Casa Famós has changed little since its inception. Booking required

María del Pilar Pérez and Daniel Martín have been running this little eight-table restaurant since 1982. You will find it right in the city centre, only a hundred meters from the Plaza de San Agustín and the MUVIM. It is an urban grillroom for just a few guests where you can enjoy meals in a snug atmosphere. This is not a designer restaurant. It is endearing and romantic, more like a Parisian bistro than an Argentinean restaurant. His cooking technique of using Argentinean charcoal embers on his grill, subdivided into individual areas, has not changed the tiniest bit. Not one drop of fat must fall onto the embers! Two quail, a 16 kg lamb, a 3.5 kg piece of T-bone steak with four different degrees of cooking … a magret, two dozen oysters, eight scallops, four cod, two baby beef with three different cooking processes, three portions of sweetbread, half a rabbit, eight bites of chorizo … all at the same time and done to suit each of the customers on each table. This restaurant is a bit out of the way which is a shame as it is quite different and special but not everyone will make the effort to visit it. The Moroccan owner has gone back in time and recreated the recipes of Moorish Valencia, the Medieval Califat of Al-Andaluz. The restaurant is decorated with all sorts of items from that time. Over 50 dishes are on offer including Berber salad of smoked barley with tomato, carrot, pepper, coriander and mint, chicken couscous with raisins, onions, almonds and cinnamon, poultry meat pie and Tajine of honeyed veal. The bread is made on the premises. Take note that there are no alcoholic drinks. Price - €30
