Moon jellyfish are masters of multiplication. After males release sperm and females fertilise the eggs, tiny planula larvae drift away and settle on rocks, turning into small polyps. These polyps clone themselves by budding and later transform into stacks of “jellyfish pancakes” — each layer a young jellyfish, or ephyra, that breaks free to grow into an adult. This clever cycle keeps the oceans filled with shimmering moon jellies.
