Aoshima, also known as Cat Island, is an island in Japan, known for its large number of feline residents who out-number the people living there. Cats were originally introduced to combat rodents on fishing boats but remained on the island and reproduced in large numbers.
The cats receive food from visitors as well as donations from all over Japan.
