Discover the interesting history of the popular golden retriever dog. The Golden Retriever was bred by Sir Dudley Marjoribanks at his Scottish estate, in the late nineteenth century. He was a keen hunter who wanted a dog that would be good a good gundog, retrieving ducks and game birds so he mixed different dog breeds to create the perfect retriever.

Golden retrievers have become one of the most popular dog breeds, not just as pets, but also as guide dogs, therapy dogs and search and rescue dogs. They are very smart dogs, gentle natured and very affectionate.
