Cane toads (Rhinella marina) are one of the world’s most successful—and destructive—invasive species. Introduced outside their native South American range to control crop pests, they quickly multiplied instead, thriving in farms, suburbs and wetlands.
Highly adaptable and protected by potent skin toxins, cane toads eat almost anything, from insects to small reptiles and even other toads, causing major declines in native wildlife. With few natural predators and a fast breeding cycle, their populations continue to surge.
As climate change creates warmer, wetter conditions, cane toads are expanding into new habitats at an un-precedented rate. This documentary explores how they spread, the ecological damage they cause, and why tracking invasive species is crucial in a changing world.
