Meet the adorable desert rain frog who squeaks and sounds like a toy. When threatened, the rain frog inflates its body and lets out high-pitched squeals, a surprisingly loud warning from such a small, round amphibian, sounding like an angry, squeaky dog toy. This comical yet ferocious sound is a defence mechanism meant to startle and in-timidate potential predators.
The desert rain frog lives in a very specific, narrow coastal strip along the dunes of Namibia and South Africa, where it obtains moisture from fog from the Atlantic Ocean in order to survive its Sandy habitat.
