Meet the
incredible wood frog, whose body makes its own anti-freeze that allows it to survive the winter. The heart stops, breathing ceases, and brain activity halts; the frog is essentially clinically dead but still alive. It can sur-vive months in this frozen state, tolerating temperatures well below freezing. When spring arrives, the frog thaws from the inside out, its heart restarts, and it quickly becomes active.
Wood frogs are native to North America and are found as far north as Alaska and are the only frogs found north of the Arctic Circle.
