Osprey Rescued fron Entangled Fishing Line

An osprey is rescued after it became tethered to its nest by a piece of discarded fishing line. The nest was high atop a light fixture in Ocean Beach, California, and a cherry picker was used to safely reach the bird and cut her free. She was brought to the Ground and carefully examined before being released. San Diego Humane Society organised the recovery.

Ospreys can accidentally snag fishing hooks or get tangled in discarded lines while trying to catch fish. It is especially important to properly dispose of fishing line and gear and to pick up all discarded fishing line, hooks, and other trash you see in areas where ospreys’ fish.
